Thomas Tuchel’s first match in England: five discussion points by Wembley Win

Before the match, Tuchel created many titles when he said that England seemed to have played with fear in Euro 2024 under his predecessor Gareth Southgate.

He also suggested that he wanted them to play Physical Football in the Premier League style.

Known for his tactical flexibility, no one was quite certain of the training that Tuchel would opt-but he sent England to a 4-2-3-1.

Although the Tuchel teams are normally known for their intensity and pressing, it was difficult for England to show either a team that has settled as defensively as Albania, especially in the first half.

And the German is also still in the early stadiums of his reign – having met his players that four days ago for the first time since he officially took over in January.

“Thomas Tuchel had the team for three days – you can’t expect to see a different England team,” said former Three Lions midfielder Leon Osman on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“We won the football match. Once we took front, there was no emergency.

“We want to be entertained. There is a certain element of control which is good in tournament football.

“At the minute, we are not in a tournament, we want to be entertained.”

England had 74% of the ball and 12 shots in the three in Albania – the hosts recorded the six efforts on the target in the game.

In the first 45 minutes, they finished 437 assists, the most on the opta records of very first half in England.

The visitors tried to play more after the break, but the bottom line of England was only tested a few times by the replacement Armando Broja.

The result itself was a routine-the manager of New England or not. The three lions are undefeated in 38 home qualifications for World Cups or euros since November 2007, with 34 victories.

“It was a difficult game from a spectator perspective,” said former English defender Matt Upson on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Once we entered the pace, it was really a match from England to Wembley against the lower opposition where they had trouble decomposing them.

“We all want to see how Thomas Tuchel’s plan will happen.

“There are so many questions, but in the end, they must manage the game itself and England did that.”

Upson added that Tuchel probably learned to “understand what it looks like tactically” to play against a team in a low block like that of Albania.
