Lewis Hamilton won a first historic F1 victory for Ferrari because he was victorious in the Sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 40-year-old man, who moved to Ferrari in the midst of Mercedes during the dead, obtained a “Gobsmacking” position with a brilliant tour on Friday.
On Saturday, Hamilton did well to keep the advance of the lights extinct in the 19 -round race and he superbly retained Max Verstappen’s challenge in the middle of the race, before moving away from the nearest Challenger Oscar Piastri.
The new Ferrari pilot took the checkered flag of more than seven seconds, his Sprint victory marking eight points in the world championship.
“I woke up feeling well today,” he said after his victory. “We have this incredible crowd … The race was difficult, many people underestimated the steep climb, it is to come to a new team.
“The number of criticisms, yapping on the way, perhaps because they did not have the experience. Great to come here and feel more comfortable in the car, we really went there. We refined the car and it was great today.
“I don’t feel the pressure. I know the tifosi [Ferrari fans] wants to win, know that it means everything for them. I said the other day: “Rome was not built in one day”. One step at a time. Be diligent and stay calm.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint, no!”
It is also a very first victory of Sprint Race of Ferrari, in a format introduced in 2021, as well as the first victory of Hamilton.
“Excellent work, guys,” said Hamilton on the radio. “Yes, well done, guy, a master’s degree in tire management,” replied his race engineer, Riccardo Adami.
It is also Hamilton’s first victory in any format since the Belgian GP 2024 last July.
Oscar Piastri finished second for McLaren, after a late surpassing on Verstappen, which finished third. The head of the Lando Norris championship finished eighth, winning a single point.
However, by qualifying for the Grand Prix on Sunday, there was a disappointment for Hamilton because he could only qualify fifth.
Piastri took the post – his first pole position for a Formula One Prix – with George Russell from Mercedes impressive to become the fastest. Norris will start third on the grid, alongside the title champion Verstappen.
The Chinese Grand Prix takes place at 7 a.m. (GMT) Sunday morning.
