GRANITVILLE – A chase title felt like a leak, and the other looked very much like it was to win late Friday afternoon to the Junior Invitational to Sage Valley.
How fast can change a golf tournament.
The advance of Joshua Bai on Jackson Byrd in the boys ‘division quickly went up to two, and Aphrodite Deng increased his lead in the girls’ division from one to four shots in the last three holes.
However, if the Junior Invititational has proven anything in its history, it is that anything can happen during the final round.
Large tracks have been wasted. The wide open races have turned into Runaways, and vice versa. The playoffs occurred – the first and only one in the boys’ tournament occurred with the victory of Caleb Surratt in 2022, only a few minutes after Agirie Leth -Nissen won in the same way in the first girl championship.
Needless to say, leaders and hunters know what it will take during the last lap on Saturday.
“My opponents were doing a lot of stews, so I wanted to follow them,” said Deng, who resisted a front-nive frenzy of Scarlett Schremmer (69) and overcome an advance of the opening round of Pimpisa Rubrong (73).
“I just played every time trying not to make mistakes,” said Deng, a Canadian who made seven birdies and a single Bogey in a round of 66 to reach 8 under the championship. “I just have to play my own game.”
Bai has a similar state of mind. The New Zealander learned last year, when he led after a first round 65 before finishing three rear of the champion Giovanni Binaghi, and now he is looking to go wire after having at least held a part of the head after each of the first three laps.
“I felt like I was on the automatic pilot, that’s what I try to feel when I play my best golf course,” said Bai, who pulled 67 Friday and briefly reached 13 under a double bogy out of 17 returned it to 11. “I am delighted to have another tower tomorrow, and the game plan does not change – just have fun.”
