Scottish midfielder Scott Mctuminay says that playing in Serie has for Napoli “opened his eyes” and helped him prosper internationally.
MCTOMINAY, 28, moved to Italy last summer after Manchester United sold it for costs of 25.7 million pounds sterling.
Since the move, Mctuminay has become a regular on the Napoli team and has scored seven times for the Italian giants, who are three points behind the heads of Inter Milan league.
He was also in prolific fit for his country recently, scoring 11 goals in his last 22 outings in Scotland.
“I would potentially say that it did,” said Mctominay when he was asked if the move had made him a better player for Scotland.
“It opened my eyes to a different football style. It also opened my eyes to many different things on the field, which I am very grateful.
“Whatever the club you play in or if you get a transfer or something like that, you must have open arms and try to improve.”
His magnificent performances for Scotland also saw him vote the international player of the year of Scottish football writers for the second successive year.
“Very proud,” he said about the price. “I am so grateful to all those who helped me in this trip, especially Steve Clarke, because it is the reason why I played so well and the reason why I like to come to the camp, because it makes an incredible atmosphere.
“And for me, I just want to do as much as possible for him and continue to prosper as much as possible.”
Mctuminay will win his 60th Scotland cap if he plays against Greece on Sunday and says that he would never have thought he would reach this landmark.
Scotland has a 1-0 sheet in advance thanks to the MCTOMINAY penalty in the first step while they are trying to maintain their status from the Nations A League.
“So I am very, very happy and honored to play 60 games,” he said. “I would never have thought that as a young boy.
“For me, it is just important to make sure that I am always available, both for the club and the country.
“Availability is so important for me, with myself to have a career as long as possible. I want to go very far in the thirties if possible. For me, this is something that I have always had a goal to do.
“So no matter what’s going on, I just want to make sure I play well and prepared to give everything for the club and the country.”
