A man proved the manufacturer of difference while Argentina exceeded Uruguay 1-0 during the qualification of the World Cup on Friday. And his name was not Lionel Messi.
Two South American giants who compete meant that it would always be a passionate case in Centenario. However, the atmosphere stretched on the ground led to a limited football in fact.
There were only six shots combined during the first five minutes of this confrontation with more faults recorded on the match sheet (new). The temperatures broke out, without surprise, and despite the talents available, things remained virgin well in the second half.
Then, a moment of magic proved the difference at the end, something that normally falls on the shoulders of an eight time winner of golden ball, Lionel Messi.
However, with Inter Miami star unavailable due to an injury, Argentina relied on Julian Alvarez and Thiago Almada to offer the winning moment.
The Starlette of Atletico de Madrid danced around the defense of Uruguay on the left wing and offered the ball to his compatriot in front of the box.
The midfielder attacker Lyon then took a touch and chose the upper right corner, leaving the goalkeeper Sergio Rochet no chance.
The time fell as Almada’s third goal in seven matches for Argentina and its second in qualifying.
Things ended badly for Argentina, however, when the replacement Nicolás González was shown a direct red card for kicking Nahitan Nández in the face in the dying minutes.
Looking at the table, Argentina sits at the top of the Conmebol qualifications with a six -point lead while Uruguay has eight points in fourth place.
